Dracula

Saludos.

Dracula

From Mariangela
I have been on treatment for leukemia for the last 9 months. Wow.
In these months they have drawn blood in liters to study my blood values. Today, for the first time, my blood samples disappeared. This was this morning’s mystery.
Who has seen Mrs. Steiner´s blood sample? No one?
There was no other choice; they took another sample, which is not a problem.
The downside is that today I was finally sleepy and wanted to have a long nap, but with all the fuss, there was no way. I was wide awake.
I am lucky to have time to spare, so I will catch on my sleep. Bye!

Mucositis

From Mariangela
As a side effect from the chemo, the radiation and my weak system, I got mucositis. This is an ailment that all transplant patients suffer, some more than others. It seems that mine was very strong, but not the worst they have seen.
The mucositis manifested itself in many ways: mouth sores, strong sore throat, difficulty swallowing, stuffed nose, etc.
To control the pain, they have been giving me morphine and paracetamol: just the same I cannot eat, because swallowing is like torture.
Until today they have been feeding me intravenously. But, I have been able to eat baby food at least once a day for the last three days. I don’t get hungry, just thinking about the pain.
But today, I woke up feeling better, and they are replacing liquids for normal food, little by little. I cannot wait to have a steak and French fries.

Felicitaciones? Pense yo.
Saludos

Speechless Part II
From Mariangela
Today a couple of doctors came to my room for their daily round. They told me as they were coming in “Good morning and congratulations”. Congratulations? I thought. So I asked “because I was reborn, because of my new birthday?” and they laughed in a chorus because I guessed right and they shared my joy.
The new cells in my bone marrow, sponsored by Pasquale Calvosa, began working today, on schedule and in the way that the doctors expected, which is the best case scenario: 10 days after the transplant and without major complications.
The kick-off has been successful, but as always the struggle continues, we have to keep on praying, being positive: I have to take care of myself to keep everything on track, to avoid any infection, to help the process along.
The only thing I regret is not being able to shout in joy (they would send me to the psychiatrist), to jump up and down on the bed (I could fall), to make a toast (not appropriate, but you have and excuse), to hug someone (because of the isolation).
Thus, I urge you to do those things for me. Greetings!

Going back to Panama
From Mariangela
My brother Pas went back to Panama on Tuesday, followed by my parents today, so you can imagine how sad I am.
But there is no space for sadness, luckily I have a beautiful family in Switzerland as well and wonderful friends not only in Switzerland and Panama, but also in Oklahoma, Ocala, Tampa, Aentura, Salvador, Quito, Miami, Lebanon, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, etc. Basically, the UN is on our side!
A million thanks for all your support.
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I am sure it is not an incoming train, but the sunshine pouring over me from God, helping me get through this odyssey with a gold medal.
A happy Sunday for everybody!

Der spannende Moment vor dem Schlafengehen

The exciting moment before going to sleep

Fieber
On Tuesday it was the chills, yesterday it was fever. This time laughing was not an option, because my fevers always terrify me and especially this one that does not want to leave me.
It seems that it is mucositis. I was given e morphine, paracetamol, etc. and they had little effect.
Again it requires my patience and my faith that everything will turn out well.

Frösteln

Soviel zum Thema “frösteln”
Tanto al asunto “escalofrios”
As much to the topic „chills”

Espero no me vuelva a ocurrir...

Chills
From Mariangela
Yesterday I was given medication that contained antibodies. My body has none at present, so it had to be given some help. This is normal after a transplant. I had a bad reaction to the medication, because I got tremors and chills. It was so strong that I didn’t know either to laugh or ask the nurse to tie me to the bed to avoid falling. I opted for the first choice…
It wasn’t painful, but nasty. It’s impressive how one can loose control of our own body.
I hope this doesn’t happen again…

Saludos!

Pain is forbidden
From Mariangela
This is the motto for the doctors on my watch. And I agree with them.
The fist thing they told me at my arrival was that I had to tell them about every little pain, before it gets worse. To avoid enduring the pain or being stoic. I was an early learner.
Last night I had a sore throat that was simply “annoying”; but as I already told you: pain is forbidden, I reported it and they gave me everything, even morphine. And form today they will systematically administer pain medication to stop it from worsening.
There is no choice, some day I will cleanse my body from all this medication that I have been given. Greetings!

Excursion to the Christmas market in Colmar, France

Fever
From Mariangela
Yesterday the doctor told me that not getting side effects from the procedure was an exception, because in this phase of the transplant patients have already been given antibiotics
Her saying this jinxed me and I got a sinusitis with light fever. And the antibiotics began. I think that the doctors feel safer anticipating, than waiting for a problem to appear.
I have told you many times: it’s better to foresee than to remedy!
